Dan Wilson

Dan Wilson
Dan Wilson grew up as a military brat in San Diego, California, and it was there that he developed his deep love for all things water related.  Some of his earliest memories are of camping with his family on the cliffs above Cardiff Reef and “getting barreled” at La Jolla Shores on a 99 cent Styrofoam body board.  That soon progressed to a Morey Boogie Board in his young teens, and eventually to a surfboard when one of his friends was finally old enough to drive.

After graduating from high school, Dan majored in surfing and partying at the local community college (with some great field trips to Baja), until one day in 1983 he saw a picture of Army Rangers jumping onto the island of Grenada, and his life hasn’t been quite the same ever since.  Over the last 25 years, Dan has served in a variety of Infantry and Ranger assignments all over the world at both the NCO and officer ranks, and has been blessed to serve with some of the finest young men and women on the planet.

One thing that has always bothered him, however, was that itch to get back in the water on a surfboard.  While he was able to maintain his sanity by snowboarding and wakeboarding, at every opportunity he tried his best to wrangle an assignment in Hawaii.  It wasn’t until 2003 that he was able to bribe his branch manager into a job in the 25th Infantry Division, and now if the Army ever tries to make him leave the islands, Dan plans on retreating to a hide site in the vicinity of the Kolekole Pass with a sniper rifle (supplied by Island Concepts) and a bag of peanut butter sandwiches, and vows they’ll never take him alive.

When he’s not stockpiling survival supplies, Dan enjoys surfing both shortboards and longboards at various breaks around the island.  He maintains a deep respect for the natural resources and culture of Hawaii, tries to live the Aloha Spirit in and out of the water every day, and is extremely grateful to the Big Ranger in the Sky to be able to live and surf in such a wonderful place.
