CW2 Pat Curran

Pat Curran
Pat Curran was born and raised on the scent-rich peninsula of South Korea until the tender age of 7 years old. During those early years, Pat developed a passion for almost any sport that required balancing on a board. Unfortunately, the surf is hardly what one would consider as desirable in the unforgiving waters off the coast of Korea. Luckily, Pat was a military brat, so travels were certainly on the horizon.

With his father’s reassignments on point, it was quickly realized that opportunity was knocking! Hickam AFB, HI was next on the list, and excitement gleamed in Pat’s eyes. Hence the start of his surfing adventures.

Unfortunately, due to a compassionate reassignment in regards to his older brother, Pat only spent one year on the North Shore as a young grom, but that was more than enough to ignite his lifelong journey to migrate back to Hawaii.

At the age of 9, Pat’s family settled in the nation’s oldest city. St. Augustine Beach, FL was his new stomping ground, where he polished up his surfing skills and spent the majority of his days skipping school. Pat graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1997 (barely), spent a short tenure in college, and realized that schooling was not his bag.

Cue the US Army and it’s wonderful lifestyle-rich environment! Pat was formerly a Scout/Sniper Infantryman assigned to 1-504th Parachute Infantry Regiment . Marching through the ranks as an NCO, Pat gained enough professional knowledge and realized that becoming a warrant officer was his calling. After spending a tour in Afghanistan sitting in hide sites, Pat jumped ship on the enlisted ranks and went through WOCS to become an aviation warrant. Six years and counting, Pat has been flying Blackhawks in hopes to always cover the troops on the ground and provide unparalleled aerial support for the ground commanders. Pat has served combat tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq, and is ready for whatever else Uncle Sam dishes his way.

Fortunately, business is not Pat’s only forte. Surfing has without a doubt been a life priority since his first dip in the water. Pat has traveled all over the world, surfing every opportunity that has been afforded. Home, however, is the beautiful island of Oahu. Pat’s home breaks are Jocko’s and Rocky Point on the North Shore, where crystal-blue double overhead barrels are always on the menu (during the winter of course…). One’s and Two’s off of Hickam are his choice South Shore breaks. If you don’t know where those are, you’re missing out! Stand up paddling has also been added to Pat’s repertoire, so watch out longboarders, no more snaking Pat the shortboarder!

So whether you’re calling in for immediate extraction, or calling ‘cheeee hoooo’ down the line, Pat is always within radio or leash’s reach! So keep your eyes open and your spirits up! Okole Maluna!
